I have
been playing drums and percussion since I was
eleven years old. After fifteen years of playing
and learning, I became a full-time professional
musician in September 2008. Prior to that I worked
as a researcher and teacher at the University of
Warwick, where I also attained a PhD and a
bachelor’s degree with first-class honours.
I play in a variety of groups and ensembles, both in Cardiff and further afield. I enjoy all styles of music and have played in many bands ranging from rock and pop acts to jazz, funk and world music ensembles. Although I have a solid grounding in music theory, and teach accordingly, my first love has always been for playing live and from the heart.
In addition to my favoured drum kit, I am versed in side drum technique, congas, djembe, bodhran and other percussion. I am also an accomplished guitarist.
